Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept 28: The Vice Chairman of the proscribed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC),Manbhalang Jyrwa tendered his resignation today.
In his place, Teimiki Laloo has been appointed as the new vice chairman of the HNLC for a period of six months.
The official announcement was made by HNLC General Secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw today.
The statement said, “We are delighted to formally announce that Sufiyan A. Hazarika, also known as Manbhalang Jyrwa, has submitted his resignation letter, which we have accepted based on humanitarian considerations.”

The statement further stated that Manbhalang Jyrwa’s resignation will not have any detrimental impact or undermine the strength and values upheld by the HNLC as its principles remain unchanged, regardless of the change in leadership.
In the statement, HNLC General Secretary hoped that the people of our Hynniewtrep community will continue to hold Manbhalang Jyrwa in high regard, treating him with respect and dignity as a fellow human being,
Nongtraw also hoped that the government will refrain from exploiting Jyrwa’s resignation and instead prioritize the peace talks.
The statement added that it is vital to note that Jyrwa’s resignation will not impede the progress of the peace process and the delegation in charge of leading the peace process will be guided by the newly appointed vice chairman.
