      Kokrajhar (Assam),Nov 13: Eminent doctor and social worker Dr Abhay Bang has been confered 18th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award-2021 today at an award presentation ceremony held at Bodofa Cultural Complex here in Kokrajhar.

      The award is conferred every year to the prominent persons, who have contributed towards the humanitarian services,and is regarded as a highest award presented from Bodos in the name of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma,former president of the All Bodo Students Union(ABSU).

      The award has been confered by Upendra Nath Brahma Trust(UNBT) and All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) recognizing the contributions of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of ABSU towards upliftment and development of the downtrodden communities including the Bodos .

      The award comprises  of a memento, a citation and a cheque of 1,00,000.

      BTR CEM Pramod Boro, ABSU president Dipen Boro,Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma handed over the award to Dr Abhay Bang.

      Accepting the award Dr Bang expressed his happiness and said that this award has again encouraged him to dedicate more services to the people . He has recalled the contribution and dedication of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma who had selflessly rendered his services wholeheartedly for the cause of the Bodos as well as the down trodden communities.

      He lauded the All Bodo Students Union for its working towards welfare of student community and social upliftment in the state especially among the Bodo community.

      “ABSU is the mother organisation of the Bodo community and the union has been dedicating for the welfare of the society. We must take steps for the uplift the society in a positive way”, Dr Bang said.

      He also emphasized the good governance in BTR(Bodoland Territorial Region) under the young leadership of Pramod Boro and said that citizens must get healthy development and integration.

      “Development of socio-economic and health among the society is need of the hour while maintaining peace and tranquility”, he said.

      He has assured for establishing health oriented facilities for the people in the Bodoland region in days to come.
      He also urged the BTR authority to adopt policies to empower young generation for bringing explore knowledge on healthy health facilities and information across the region.

      BTR CEM Pramod Boro while addressing the ceremony as chief guest, said that Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was a visionary leader of the down trodden community in the northeastern region.

      He said that Bodos and other down trodden communities must remember Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma through whom today Bodos and other tribes have reached to this juncture.

      “Bodofa Brahma had dedicated his whole life for the cause of the Bodo society as well for the down trodden communities”, Boro said.

      He said that Bodofa was an iconic figure for bringing the Bodo community to the mainstream .Bodofa had followed the Gandhian idealogy and philosophy in his life.

      “We must keep alive of philosophy and theology of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to create a healthy society,” Boro added.

      Chairman of UNB Trust,Dr Subung Basumatary said that the yearly award ceremony started from 2004 and first ,noted writer and former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Jogendra Kumar Basumatary was given away this prestigious award.  He said that the award is given to persons who are immensely contributing and working for the human welfare and upliftment amongst the society.

       

      “The trust is  honored to confer the award to Dr Bang who contributed a lot towards literary upliftment and social integrity in the state”,Dr Basumatary said.

      Among others, president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro,ABSU president Dipen Boro, noted critic Prof Ganesh N Devy were prominent attendees and the function was chaired by Assam cabinet minister and Sahitya Akademi award winner Urkhao Gwra Brahma.
