Shillong ( Meghalaya), July 24 : A total of 52 new cases were detected and 1 patient succumbed to her infections on Friday .
With this the total number of positive cases has gone upto to 587 .
Seeing no improvement in the situation , the government has decided to impose total lockdown in Shillong Agglomeration for three days from July 26 midnight to July 29 midnight which might be further extended depending on the situation .
Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the government was left with no option but to re-impose the lockdown after seeing the increase in the number of positive cases every day.
According to the state Health Minister, A L Hek 52 new cases we detected today out of which East Khasi Hills reported 47 new cases including 9 BSF personnel, 7 other armed forces, and 31 general public . West Jaiñtia Hills reported 3 new cases while East Jaiñtia Hills reported 2 new cases.
So far 587 Covid cases have been reported in the state , out of which, 495 are active cases, 87 patients have recovered, and 5 deaths.
Today , a doctor from Shillong Civil Hospital and another doctor from NEIGHRIMS tested Covid positive .
Meanwhile , certain areas of Shillong which includes Mawbah, Jhalupara, Upper Mawprem,Mawlai Umjaiur , Mawli Umshing ,Laithumkhrah (Nazareth) , Nongrim Hills ,Nongrah ,Lachumiere and Golf Link Khliehshnong have been declared as containment zones .
