Shillong, Sep 18: The two suspected KSU members accused of ramming their scooty into Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Lovish Garg during naka checking were produced in court today.
The duo had allegedly attempted to evade police checking at Urkaliar near Samkhamti Petrol Pump at around 1.30 am on Thursday. Despite being signalled to stop, the scooty moved aggressively and when IPS officer Garg intervened, the rider accelerated and hit him deliberately.
Garg sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment in the High Dependency Unit at Woodland Hospital.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder, stating that the act appears to be deliberate and intended to cause grievous injury to the officer on duty and escape checking.
Police said the motive behind their late-night movement and attempt to flee is being investigated. Strict naka checking will continue across the city.
