Kokrajhar ( Assam) Sep 25: In what can be termed as a major set back setback for the people of Bodoland Territorial Region districts as well Lower Assam districts that the existing High Power Transmitter (HPT) Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra is going to be shut down by March 31 next and ministry has already served necessary notice for the shutdown .
Along with several Doordarshan Kendras across the country, a notice was also served to Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar for shut down by March 31 next. The noticed was served to Doordarshan Kendra ,Kokrajhar on Sep 20 by the ministry of information & broadcasting, which has created chaos and resentment among the citizens in the region.
As per source, nearly nearly 250 Doordarshan Kendras across the country has so far been served shutdown notices on different dates and several Doordarshan Kendra of Assam also figured in the list including Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra.
Presently, there are seven technical persons who employed in the Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar since it’s inception.
Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra was established in 1989 as Lower Power Transmitter (LPT) and later upgraded to High Power Transmitter (HPT) in 2010 to extend services to the people of the Bodoland belt.
Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra is consider to be an important TV centre in Bodoland belt as well in Lower Assam districts.
Citizens of Kokrajhar and it’s employees have expressed their resentment and dissatisfaction over the notice served for the shutdown by March 31 next.
Assistant engineer of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra said that the centre received a notice from higher authorities recently for shutdown the existing Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra along several hundred Doordarshan Kendras across the country with stating the reason behind it ,
“We are totally confuse d with the notice served our Doordarshan Kendra “, the assistant engineer said.
Local people in Kokrajhar have urged the concerned higher authorities to rethink over the shutdown notice to the existing Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra which is very popular among the local populace .
Meanwhile, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has expressed serious concern over the notice and demanded full upgradation of the Doordarshan Kendra with modern equipment’s.
A delegation of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) led by it’s president Dipen Boro today visited at Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra at Bhotgaon in Kokrajhar to take stock of the prevailing situation.
ABSU delegation met the officials and staff of the Doordarshan Kendra and demanded full upgradation of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra in the days to come.
ABSU president Dipen Boro said that Doordarshan Kendra is a heritage of the region where people from different communities are getting the opportunity to present their culture, language, literary activities through the Doordarshan Kendra.
Boro said that former Union Home Minister and now Defense minister Rajnath Singh had assured for upgradation of Kokrajhar Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio with modern equipment by 2019.
He has urged the state and central government to totally upgrade the Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar in days the to come.
Boro informed that ABSU delegation team will meet central government representatives to discuss about the upgradation of the Doordarshan Kendra Kokrajhar by October next .
