Guwahati(Assam) , Dec 25 : After brining some control in the spread of Covid pandemic in the state a returnee from the United Kingdom tested positive for COVID-19 at Guwahati International Airport today .
Addressing a press conference , Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the UK returnee was tested COVID-19 positive and he has been admitted at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.
He said that though he tested positive it is yet to be confirmed if it is the new strain which is spreading in UK .
The swab of the person who is from Jorhat has been sent to National Institute of Virology Pune to get the confirmation of the type of the strain and the confirmation is expected soon .
So far , a total of 102 persons have returned to Assam from the UK in the last 15 days and out of them, 72 are from Kamrup (Metro) district.
Meanwhile , 61 new cases were detected out of 11757 tests conducted today with positivity rate of 0.52%. Kamrup Metro reported 28 new cases .
95 patients discharged were discharged today after recovery .
