Kokrajhar (Assam), April 30: Sensation prevails along the Halang Bazar near Patgaon after unidentified armed miscreants fired indiscriminately targeting at the UPPL youth office just two days ahed of the counting of Assam assembly elections here on Thursday midnight .
The incident occured at Halang Bazar UPPL youth office under Kokrajhar East constituency at around 11:50 PM .
According to UPPL members at Halang Bazar,a group of three armed miscreants came and open fired targeting UPPL youth office from roadside nearly 40 meter’s far and started indiscriminately firing on the UPPL youth members while they asleep .
Luckily ,the bullets hit the wall of the UPPL youth office and no one was injured in the incident.
Three live bullets and two empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.
A police team led by SP Kokrajhar Rakesh Roushan rushed to the spot just after the incident and took stock of the incident.
Roushan said that police has started it’s investigation into the incident and involved culprits would identified after a thorough investigation.
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief executive member (CEM) Pramod Boro also visited the spot today to take stock about the incident.
He was accompanied with BTC executive member Ukil Mushahary, UPPL candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency Lawrence Islary and met party workers and supporters.
He termed the firing incident on UPPL party office as a political attack.
Boro demanded a strict action against the culprits after a deep investigation into the incident.
He said that the arms attack on UPPL office can’t be tolerated at any costs.
He has urged the district administration and state government for taking stern steps to identify the culprits without any delay.
UPPL candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency Lawrence Islary who also visited the spot condemned the firing incident.
Meanwhile, Assam Social welfare minister and BPF candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency, Pramila Rani Brahma condemned the firing incident at Halang Bazar late last night and demanded a strict inquiry into to identify the culprits.
“It was an unfortunate incident which occurred ahead of two days of counting of the Assam assembly elections .It was done by some anti social elements to create chaos among the society”, Brahma added .
She has urged all sections of the society to maintain peace and harmony.
Meanwhile, the Kokrajhar district committee of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has vehemently condemned the act of target firing at UPPL youth camp at Patgaon Halang Bazar, at around 11.55 PM by some miscreants where three rounds of bullets have been recovered at the place of occurrence.
“Despite earnest attempt of ABSU’s establishment of arms and violent free society, this incidence has posed a threat and a sense of insecurity in the mind of people that some untraceable ill motivated group with illegal arms are still active in the region”, a press statement issued to the media by president of Kokrajhar district committee ABSU Kripesh Daimary and secretary Kampa Basumatary said.
The union demand to the police administration to make a free, fair and thorough investigation into this incidence so as to track the culprits involved at an earliest possible and punish them as per law.
