Kokrajhar (Assam),May 26: Superintendent of Police,Chirang has suspended the Oflice-in-Charge of Amguri Police Station, Surachandra Doley for gross misconduct and dereliction of duty for physically assaulting COVID-19 warriors and para – medial staff at Amteka on Sunday last .
In an unpleasant incident in Assam’s Chirang district, the police officer and jawans reportedly assaulted some front line health workers while they were on duty to combat the Coronavirus outbreak in the state which created resentment and chaos among the people in the region.
Three members of the team received injuries including a doctor due to the physical assault by the police from Amguri police station.
The medical team was from Kajalgaon who all had gone for duty to the Amteka area on Sunday along the Indo-Bhutan border area in Chirang district.
The incident occured right in front of Amteka MPCH.
The doctor has been identified as Dr. Madhurjya Kakoti, accountant Nitu Das and pharmacist Raju Boro .
” The team of frontline health workers were reportedly stopped from going to the hospital in Kajolgaon. They were held along with the ambulance on their way to the hospital at Amguri Police Station”,said a medical staff.
Local people from the area have condemned the act of the Chirang police against the health workers who have been rendering all medical help for prevention of COVID-19 in the region .
Chirang police administration took a hard decision and ,issued an order suspending the Officer -in Charge of the police station ,stating that pending withdrawal of departmental proceeding, SI (UB) Surachandra Doley, Oflice-in-Charge of Amguri Police Station is placed under suspension for his gross misconduct and dereliction of duty with immediate effect.
“During his period of suspension, his headquarter will be at Police Reserve, Chirang and he shall draw sustenance allowance admissible as per government norms”, an official order of SP office Chirang stated .
