Guwahati (Assam), Mar 6 : The state govt on Friday stepped up measures to prevent deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) after neighbouring Bhutan reported its first positive case.
Bhutan on Friday said that one case of Covid-19 was confirmed at 11 pm on March 5 and the result was validated at 12-30 am on March 6.
A 76 -year old patient from the United States and had entered Bhutan from Paro International Airport, after embarking Drukair flight KB241 from Guwahati in Assam on March 2.
The tourist had spent a few days in Assam and took a seven-day Brahmaputra river cruise before leaving to Bhutan.
Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also confirmed case of Covid-19 in Bhutan was recently in Assam.
“We have come to know that he also took a river cruise. So we are trying to identify the particular people who may have been in touch with him during his stay in Assam. We will take all the steps as advised by the Union government, Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The state govt is taking steps to find details of the travel itinerary and people who came in contact with a US citizen, who was in the state before he flew to Bhutan this week and tested positive for coronavirus disease.
There has been no confirmed cases of coronavirus case in the state so far.
