Kokrajhar (Assam), April 28 : There has been at least 6 aftershocks felt in Assam since the massive 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook the state at 7.51 am, this morning .
Of the total 7 tremors, the epicenter of 6 was in Sonitpur district and one in Nagaon district.
Due to the impact of 6.7 earthquake this morning part of the Bhairabkunda Hill at Udalguri district broke away and crashed to the ground.
The tremor jolted the entire region with reports of cracked of residential building,paddy fields, damaged properties in several places of Udalguri district.
Due to the impact of the quake , a part of the famous tourist destination Bhairabkunda at Udalguri district under Bodoland Territorial Council region along the Indo-Bhutan border broke away .
“The Hill’s peak position also showed a slide due to the impact of massive tremor .The impact was so much that cannot be elaborated and part of it crashed to the ground “,said a local resident of Udalguri who was present near the hill.
“People in the area were seen rushing out from their residential complexes due to the impact of tremor when a portion of hill crashed to the ground “,said another citizen of Udalguri .
Today’s earthquake in the state comes weeks after an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck near Sikkim’s capital Gangtok.
