Guwahati (Assam), May 8: Though the name of the next Assam chief minister would be formally announced after the BJP’s State Legislature Party to be held in Guwahati on Sunday it is now certain that Face of BJP in the state and the region Dr. Himanta Biswa will be the next CM of the state .
According to highly placed sources , incumbent Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will propose the name of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and will be seconded by State President and MLA Ranjit Dass .
The development took place after CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma met party top leaders at New Delhi on Saturday .
Today both the leaders had a meeting BJP president JP Nadda at his residence in New Delhi. They also met Union home minister Amit Shah and general secretary BL Santhosh .
Earlier ,both Dr . Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal were summoned by the party leadership over the issue of the next chief minister of Assam and left by a chartered flight this morning .
Both both Sonowal and Sarma along with two BJP observers, BL Santhosh and Arun Singh would reach Guwahati tonight .
The BJP’s State Legislature party meet would be held on Sunday and Dr. Sarma is likely to sworn -in as the new Chief Minister on Monday .
In the results announced on May 2 ,the BJP won 60 seats, its alliance partners United Liberation Party Liberal (UPPL) won 6 seats, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won 9 seats.
Unlike , other states the BJP did not announce its chief ministerial candidate before the Assembly elections in Assam .
