Guwahati(Assam, May 04 : In a major jolt for the Opposition, BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami has defeated state Congress president Gaurav Gogoi as the BJP-led NDA is set to retain power comfortably.
According to information, Gogoi was defeated in his home constituency by a huge margin of 22,000 votes. On the other hand, in Nazira Congress candidate and Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia is trailing behind nearest rival and BJP candidate Mayur Borgohain till 1 in the afternoon.
The main ruling coalition partner in Assam is taking lead in 90 seats.
In a significant development Dispur BJP candidate Pradyut Bordoloi is trailing behind his nearest rival Congress candidate Meera Borthakur.
In Khuwang constituency, AJP candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi is trailing behind his nearest rival BJP candidate Chakradhar Gogoi and in Sivasagar, Raijor Dal candidate and party president Akhil Gogoi has been trailing behind his nearest rival BJP candidate Kushal Duwari.
On the other hand, Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi is trailing behind his nearest rival and BJP candidate Hiten Goswami. The Congress party is leading only in 23 seats so far.
In Jagiroad, cabinet minister Piyush Hazarika is leading over his nearest rival Congress candidate Bubuil Das.
