Kokrajhar(Assam),June 8: Erosion continues in the ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) ahead of the general elections to Bodoland Territorial Council( BTC) which has been indefinitely postponed due to Covid -19 outbreak .

Former MLA from Kokrajhar West LAC and senior BPF leader Hemendra Nath Brahma today joined the United People’s Party Liberal( UPPL) party at party office here.

On Saturday, sitting Tamulpur MLA and BPF general secretary Emanuel Mushahary announced his decision to quit BPF and within 24-hour another senior party leader Brahma quit the BPF and formally joined the UPPL along with his large number of supporter and followers.

Brahma was elected to the Assam legislative Assembly for two terms from 1996 to 2006 with the support from ABSU and some other organizations.

Brahma is also a noted educationist and presently general secretary of Assam Football Association(AFA).
Before joining to the UPPL, Brahma was political advisor of the former BTC and BPF president chief Hagrama Mohilary and a member of policy making body(PMB) of BPF .

He joined the UPPL along with nearly hundred supporters in the presence of UPPL president Pramod Boro .
UPPL president Pramod Boro, senior party leader and ex Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma welcomed and felicitated newly joined members with traditional Aronai and Phulam Gamocha.

Boro while welcoming the newly joined members said that his party is gaining mass support in the region ahead of the council elections. He said that party was working for the development and welfare of the common masses.
He said that party welcomes those who are willing to join the party.

He said that BPF has failed to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the common masses and accordingly new members from BPF and other parties are joining the their party .

” General peoples are not happy with the BPF reign because BPF has been indulging in huge scale corruption and anomalies in many departments including development packages which were meant for public welfare”, Boro said.

He has expressed his hopefulness that the UPPL will be able to dedicate more to keep sustainable development and welfare initiatives for people from all walks of life if his party is voted to the power in the council. He opined that people’s welfare and integrity building are the top priority of the party in the near future.

On the BTC elections,Boro said that the council elections should be held after reviewing the existing COVID-19 situation in the state. He urged upon all to first take safety measures and protect themselves from the deadly pandemic and once the situation is normalized the postponed elections of the BTR could be held .

He said that people from the region wants free and fair council elections to elect public representative to the council.

Former MLA Brahma said that he has joined the UPPL party on his own and their was no influence on him .He said that he always wants peace and development amongst all sections of the citizens and accordingly joined the UPPL .
Meanwhile,BPF has claimed that there will be no impact within party with the quiting of several party leaders and members in the recent past.

Emanuel Mushahary was first elected to the BTC assembly and held BTC executive member position till 2011.Later,he was elected to the Assam legislative Assembly and is holding the position till date .

” Erosion of members and joining other parties are the part of the political process in a democratic country,so there would be no impact or blow within party “,said a senior BPF party leader.
