Kokrajhar (Assam),June 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) will play the role of a “Big Brother” in formation of the next council in the Bodoland Territorial Area District(BTAD) by winning majority seats in the council elections, said Assam Irrigation minister and senior BJP leader Bhabesh Kalita.
Kalita launched the party’s ‘mass-reach out’ campaign here which begun on Tuesday across the state to attract the general masses towards the party ahead the 2021 Assembly elections.
Kalita has been assigned the role of in-charge of Kokrajhar district. He highlighted the achievements of the BJP during its four-year rule in Dispur and one-year of NDA 2.0 government at centre through the party’s reach out campaigning.
Kalita visited Athiabari and Karigaon areas in Kokrajhar district and met the common people accompanied by the party workers.
BTC election for the 40 constituencies was scheduled to be held on April 4 last,but was postponed for an indefinite period due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The BJP is contesting in 26 constituencies on its own ,UPPL and GSP are contesting in all 40 seats,BPF in 37 and Congress-AIUDF are jointly putting up candidates in 20 seats in the council elections.
Kalita expressed happiness that people from all walks of life are coming forward to extend support to the BJP in the BTAD region and accordingly the party is gaining a good position .
He has claimed that BJP will be a deciding factor in the BTAD elections by winning majority of the seats paving the way for good governance.
He said that the common masses want the saffron party in the region for healthy and welfare initiatives among all sections of the communities.
Kalita expressed his hope that the BJP would be winning majority of the seats in the council elections, adding that the BJP would be playing the role of a “Big-Brother” in the formation of the next council in BTAD.
Kalita said that early conduct of council elections would be held in BTAD by July-August next if COVID-19 situation is controlled in the state.
To a question on new members joining the BJP, he said that the party’s door is always open for all those are want to join the BJP .He said that BJP led NDA government at centre and alliance government at Dispur are jointly working hard for the welfare of the common masses.
Earlier, minister Kalita inspected the Irrigation schemes constructed at Nayekgaon and Serfanguri under Kokrajhar division here .The irrigation schemes are being constructed under NABARD,PMGSY .
