New Delhi , Feb 26 : The Election Commission of India has announced schedule for Assam assembly elections. Elections in Assam will be held in 3 phases from March 27.
During the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that Assam assembly elections to be held in 3 phases. The 1st phase of polling will be on March 27 for 47 constituencies, the second phase polling on April 1 for 39 constituencies, and the third phase of polling on April 6 for 40 constituencies. The counting will be held on May 2.
According to the CEC, out of the total 126 Assembly seats in Assam, eight are reserved for the Scheduled Castes candidates and 16 for Scheduled Tribes.
There are a total of 33,530 polling stations in Assam this year, an increase of 34.71 per cent over the last elections in 2016.
The CEC further announced that voting will be allowed for an extra one hour in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
