Kolkata (West Bengal), Mar 23 : An man contaminated with the coronavirus died in a Kolkata hospital on Monday, hospital sources said .
The deceased was 57 years old and a resident of Dumdum in North 24 Parganas district.
He was admitted to the hospital on February 16 and was on ventilator support .
“The person had acute respiratory syndrome. We had taken correct protecting measures however he died this afternoon,” a spokesperson of the hospital said .
Meanwhile , his family a members have been kept in an isolation ward at a state-run hospital.
On Monday, the death toll due to Covid-19 in India rose to 8.
At present, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are observing a lockdown with suspension of metro and other public transport facilities apart. State borders have been sealed, all passenger trains stand cancelled and all inter-state bus services have been suspended in an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Globally, the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 has risen to over 330,000 with more than 14,000 deaths.
The total Coronavirus confirmed cases rise to 415 in India, with over 89 cases in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is the most affected state in India. Meanwhile the government is taking strict measures like imposing lockdown,educating people, fast isolation of the patients and other possible steps to stop the spread of this virus.
The deadly outbreak of Coronavirus in India killed 7 people in the country while worldwide deaths crossed 14,000, which is a huge number. Due to this virus more than 3,39,710 people are infected around the world.
Indian government is taking all the steps to stop the outbreak of Coronavirus in India, In India many places are under lockdown and the center is instructing states to enforce lockdown in their area.
Maharashtra is the worst hit state where 89 confirmed cases have been identified. Kerala is the second most affected state in the country where two people died due to Coronavirus infection.
There are reports of 30 fresh cases in the country which increased the total number to 415 till today. As per the government data 24 people recovered and discharged or migrated.
According to the Council of Medical Research (ICMR) 18,383 samples have been tested till 10 am on Monday to find out the Coronavirus infection.
India’s capital Delhi reported a total of 30 confirmed cases while Uttar Pradesh records 25 cases. Confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection is 21 in Telangana, Rajasthan reported 28 cases, Haryana reported 17 cases including 14 foreigners, Karnataka reported 20 Coronavirus cases, the number of confirmed cases is increasing daily which is a major concern for the people of India.
Punjab and Ladakh reported 13 cases each. The total number of confirmed cases reported from Gujarat is 14. Jammu and Kashmir has four confirmed cases of deadly coronavirus infection.
In Tamil Nadu there are reports of six cases, While Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand reported three cases each.
The West Bengal state reported four cases, while Odisha has two cases of confirmed Coronavirus infection.
Center directed to lockdown Seventy five cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru till 31 March. In all the places in country trains, metros and inter-state buses have been shut effective from today.
Government only allowed essential services like milk, vegetables, medicines, grocery and ATMs to operate during the shutdown.
