Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Jan 28 : Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board (ALMDB), Chairman , Shiladitya Dev today made an ardent appeal to Meghalaya government to take stern action against criminals who attacked the members of a minority community in Shillong recently.
Dev made this statement following an attack on the members of a minority community in front of Garikhana Police Station , here . The incident occurred in front of a police station under CCTVs surveillance.
Shiladitya termed the Khasi people as “peace loving” and Meghalaya as a ” paradise of scenic beauty and most sought after tourist destination”.
He said tourists should feel secured when the come to Meghalaya and if they shift to some other places its economy of the state will be affected.
Shiladitya also said putting the criminals behind the bars for three months will deter others from indulging in such criminal activities.
Dev added that it is up to the government to control the criminal activities. “The police may not take action, but if the government puts pressure on them and they are are bound to take action”, he said.
Shiladitya who was accompanied by MLA of Pynthorumkhrah, Alexander Laloo Hek also met the Meghalaya Governor, Satya Malik Pal at Raj Bhavan today and suggested the state Government through him to set up a Linguistic Minority Development Board in Meghalaya to usher confidence among the minority communities.
