Shillong(Meghalaya), June 23: Mawlai SC and Lumparing SC won their respective Group B matches in the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
Defending champions Mawlai began with a 7-1 victory over Kharang SC in the first fixture, while Lumparing blanked Iasnohktilang Madanrting FC 8-0 later in the afternoon.
In-ri La-i-dor Khongthaw (54′, 57′, 61′, 66′) netted four goals in the second half as a strong Lumparing side took the game away from Iasnohktilang in the latter part of the match. The other Lumparing goals were by captain Sidaris Khongwet (5′, 22′), who opened her team’s account, and Iaphishisha Marbaniang (33′, 50′).
Iasnohktilang were not completely outplayed but found it hard to get the ball to their players up front and Khongthaw’s goals in quick succession made sure of the result.
Earlier, Makrisha Songthiang (3′, 47′) scored in either half for Mawlai, with individual goals by Napaleroiki Lytan (29′), Aibaplielad Skhemiew (31′), Charlinda Nongtdu (66′), Ideibanri Kharpan (68′) and Baiahun L Nongbri (70′). Kharang’s goal – their first of the season – was scored by Damansani Kharsahnoh (41′).
There will be no matches in the Women’s League until 3 July, when Laitkor SC face Kick Start Football Coaching Centre at 2:30pm, followed by Lawei Smit SC versus PFR Academy at 4:15pm. Both matches will be from Group A.
