Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 21 : Different NGOs of South Garo Hills District today burnt the effigies of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and also that the Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, Rakesh Newar Sangma, as a mark of protest against the state Governments inability to oust Rakesh Newar Sangma from the post of the Chief Executive Member despite their sustained agitation.
The NGOs said that they have been agitating for the removal of the CEM from the coveted tribal position, but their demands have fallen into the deaf ears of the state government.
They also strongly criticized the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for the lukewarm attitude to address their issue for the sake of peace and tranquility in the state. “We will continue with our agitation till the state Government ousts Rakesh Newar Sangma from the post of the Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, ” they added .
