Imphal (Manipur), July 19 :Manipur Political Activist Erendro Leichombam, who was detained under NSA for his social media post, was released from Sajiwa Jail on Monday after completing due official formalities.
The release came after intervention by the Supreme Court.
His parents, both father L Raghumani and mother Ch Landhoni along with his counsel came to receive him from Sajiwa Manipur central Jail.
He was arrested on May 13 for a social media post along with one journalist Kishorechand Wanghemcha. Erendro in his post wrote, “The cure for Corona is not cow dung & cow urine. The cure is science & common sense. Professor ji RIP.”
On a lighter note, Erendro told media persons that he had a good time in Jail, reading & writing, too. And, regarding the apex court judgement, he said the Supreme Court has given the right decision.
Reacting against the act, he said NSA is a colonial law that put the freedom fighters to jail.
“And this, British era law has been used by the current administration of Manipur. That’s very unfortunate”.
“I believe, in the political arena, the people of Manipur will definitely take these imprisonment, including mine too, into consideration, when they go to the polls next year.
“The Current administration is abusing this Act. Anybody, any one of us, can be arrested anytime, if whatever we are speaking is against their liking, against the current administration’s liking. This is a concerted attempt by the current administration to silence the people,” he added.
He was arrested along with journalist Kishorchandra Wangkhem, who had made a similar post over Covid cure following the death of BJP Manipur president S Tikendra Singh.
