Shillong, Sep 23: Nongkseh kept their title hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Rangdajied United in the Shillong Premier League at SSA Stadium on Wednesday.
Dawanchwa Challam broke the deadlock in the 66th minute with a brilliant control and left-foot finish, before Aenam Jyrwa sealed it in the 85th after a cross from the right fell kindly to him at the far post.
It was Nongkseh’s second straight win, taking them to fourth with 10 points, just three behind leaders Langsning. Rangdajied stay seventh with 7 points and drew a blank for the first time this season.
Rangdajied held firm for an hour and improved after a poor start to the season but missed chances. Balamlynti Khongjee headed wide in the 79th minute, Franky Dkhar saw his free kick hit the wall, and Henryford Nongneng’s late swerving shot was punched away by keeper Daraphun Talang.
Earlier, Chesterpaul Lyngdoh had a shot cleared off the line for Nongkseh.
Next up, third-placed Shillong Lajong face Laitkor on Wednesday at 3pm.
