Shillong (Meghalaya), April 14: The Meghalaya State League returns Wednesday as Nongkseh SSCC take on Khimusniang SC in the MSL 5 opener at 5 PM, SSA Stadium Polo, under floodlights. Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla will attend as chief guest. Tickets available at the venue.
Both clubs make their MSL debut in a clash of champions. Nongkseh SSCC stormed 2025 with the Shillong Sports Association First Division title, Champions Cup, and Sikkim Gold Cup in January. Khimusniang SC arrive as West Jaintia’s pride after lifting the U Kiang Nangbah Memorial Trophy as WJDSA Super Division 2025 winners, eyeing a repeat of Niaw Wasa United’s inaugural MSL triumph in 2017-18.
Backed by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs since inception, MFA’s flagship league has lifted football standards statewide in just four editions. MSL has a unique record: a different winner every season — Niaw Wasa United 2017-18, Shillong Lajong 2019, Rangdajied United 2023, and Mawlai 2024-25. While the last three hail from Shillong, districts have pushed hard — Tynrongmawsaw and Khliehmawlieh Youth Club as runners-up, and Ladthadlaboh SC and Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC reaching last year’s semis.
Expect a packed house and fierce football as MSL 5 begins.
