Shillong (Meghalaya), June 20 : The Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA) felicitated two award winning journalists Alicia Bakor Phanwar and Princess Giri Rashir at a programme held at Shillong Club lounge here on Thursday.
Both the awardees were presented with mementos and letters of appreciation by MEPA at the felicitation programme.
26-year-old Alicia Bakor Phanwar won the ENBA Gold Award for Best News Producer on March 30, 2024. She is one of the youngest journalists working as shift newsroom supervisor in the India Today TV.
Princess Giri Rashir won the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism on March 19, 2024. She currently serves as the Meghalaya correspondent of East Mojo news portal.
The felicitation programme was chaired by MEPA treasurer Banda Blah and was addressed by MEPA General Secretary John W. Thabah, MEPA President R Monarch Shabong, Vice President Rajib Chowdhury and Executive Member, Patricia Mukhim.
Speaking at the programme, Phanwar thanked the MEPA for honouring her achievement. She also said that Meghalaya should have a space in national media with all the issues and potentialities that the state has.
Rashir in her speech expressed her gratitude to MEPA for felicitating her. She also said that it was the duty of journalists in Meghalaya to take up issues concerning the people of the state with sincerity and dedication so that such issues get the national media attention.
