Shillong ( Meghalaya ), March 4 : Woodland ENT Clinic and Hearing and speech Center observed World hearing Day 2021 on Wednesday .
WHO theme for world hearing day 2021 was “ HEARING CARE FOR ALL” ( screen -rehabilitate – communicate).
To observe this day and to create awareness on importance of hearing and prevention of hearing loss, pamphlets on information regarding hearing, it’s causes and ways of prevention were distributed.
A hearing check up camp was conducted by Dr Hanifa Akhtar , ENT Consultant of Woodland ENT Clinic and Mrs Wanshimpli Marwein, consultant audiologist and speech language pathologist for respected members of Shillong traffic police where 31 police personnel were examined and tested.
In a press release Dr Hanifa shared information regarding the empanellement of Woodland Hospital for Free cochlear implant surgery under ADIP Scheme.
ADIP Scheme is a scheme by Government of India under Department of disability affairs . Under this scheme cochlear implant is given for free to children with bilateral severe to profound hearing loss .
A cochlear implant is a small, electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing.
Children with bilateral hearing loss since birth and postlingual (up to 12 years) and belonging to families with monthly income less than 20000 are eligible to avail the benefit from this scheme.
Moreover , Woodland ENT Clinic handed over free hearing aids to three patients which were sponsored by Arti Enterprises . The entire programme was co ordinated by Babat Kharshiing , Marketing Officer of the hospital .
