Shillong ( Meghalaya), May 22: Despite imposition of curfew to control the rise of Covid -19 cases in the state , the surge of Covid cases and deaths continues in the state .
According to a press statement ,in the last 24 hours, 21 patients succumbed to their infections at various hospitals across the state .
While 19 deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills , 2 deaths were reported from West Jaintia Hills.
The death toll so far has gone up to 435.
The state also recorded 1123 new Covid -19 cases on Saturday out of which 542 were reported from East Khasi Hills and 277 from Ri Bhoi district. The active cases in the state has gone upto 7454 .
Meanwhile , 509 patients were discharged on Saturday after recovery .
According to data available , majority of the hospitals in Shillong are in shortage of beds .
