Shillong ( Meghalaya ), April 17 : A 15 – member delegation of newly elected MDCs consisting of 11 from NPP , 3 independents and 1 GNC MDC called on the state Governor Satyapal Malik today to stake claim to form a new Executive Committee in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) .
The delegation was led by CM and NPP chief Conrad K Sangma .
Though NPP failed to get a majority in the council and won 11 of the 29 seats it now has support from 3 independents and one GNC MDC to form the new executive committee.
The elections to the GHADC was held on April 12 last.
The NPP now has now support from three independent MDCs and Nikman Ch Marak from GNC, who won the Rongrikkimgre seat.
The MDCs have grouped under the banner of Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) with 11 NPP MDCs, 3 independents and 1 GNC MDC.
According to information available , Chief Executive Member (CEM) will be Benedict Marak and Dy CEM will be Nikman Marak.
Though the Congress which emerged as the single largest party with 12 seats refrained from making any statement on the 3 independent MDCs, Former CM and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma said that his party is in talks with them.
The GHDC has also elected Rakesh Sangma as their Chairman, which has to get the mandate of the House in the GHADC.
In the 29-seat autonomous council the voting for which was held on April 12 , NPP won 11 seats, making it the second-largest party in the council, after the Congress, which won 12., BJP won 2 seats, Independent candidates claimed victory in three seats and 1 seat was won by GNC.
Despite being a partner of the NPP at the state, the BJP is critical of its coalition partner, especially when it came to the handling of the previous GHADC administration, which was led by the NPP.
