Shillong (Meghalaya), May 16: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the state government to hand over land required for the Shillong Airport expansion to the airport authorities within two months. The court is overseeing the project’s progress through a public interest litigation and has expressed hope that the project will make significant progress by July 15, 2025.
The state government has been asked to remove obstructions in the flight path to the airport, in consultation with the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), within the same timeframe. Meanwhile, the central government has been directed to proceed with the tender process for building or renovating airport infrastructure.
The court’s directions aim to ensure timely completion of the project, which is expected to boost the state’s infrastructure and connectivity. The bench, comprising Chief Justice I.P. Mukerji and Justice W. Diengdoh, will review the project’s progress on July 15, 2025, when separate action taken reports are expected from the state and central governments.
