Baghmara(Meghalaya), June 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing South Garo Hills district during the 33rd Foundation Day celebrations. Sangma announced that the region has seen significant investments, with ₹1,400 crore worth of projects implemented since 2018. He further stated that an additional ₹400 crore would be sanctioned under various schemes over the next 2-3 years.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said, “In 2018, during my visit to Baghmara, I had promised that I will do my best to develop South Garo Hills. We have listed different initiatives for the region, and in the past seven years, we have implemented various projects worth ₹1,400 crore.”
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s focus on creating opportunities for local people and transforming South Garo Hills into a hub for growth and progress. He also emphasized the potential for carbon credits, urging locals to protect the region’s forests and rivers to attract companies seeking carbon offset solutions.
The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries, who joined in celebrating the district’s foundation day and witnessing the government’s commitment to its development.
