Shillong (Meghalaya) , Oct 23 : A 24-year-old person , Jiten Sunar hailing from Upper Mawprem area succumbed to his infections today taking the death toll in the state to 79 .
The patient was admitted to Civil Hospital here on Oct 13 and tested positive for the virus the very same day.

He passed away today at 12:30pm due to aspiration pneumonia with Covid-19 and chronic infections.
Meanwhile , 81 new cases were detected in the state today taking the state tally to 8,802. Among the new cases 51 were reported from East Khasi Hills, 21 from West Garo Hills 6 from West Jaintia Hills and 1 each from East Garo Hills , East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills .
A total of 111 patients were declared recovered today .
