Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 8 : Two more Covid patients succumbed to their infections on taking the death toll to 143 .
According to offical sources , 55-year-old Rina Dutta, a resident of Saha Colony Dhalai, Tripura passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Jan 6. The cause of her death was due to severe aortic stenosis with severe pulmonary hypertension, cardio respiratory arrest, cardioembolic stroke with seizure with COVID pneumonia.
The other patient has been identified as Namita Deka aged 31 years from Police Reserve here and she also passed away in the same hospital on Jan 6. She was a patient of advanced stage carcinoma rectum under palliative care. The patient had a cardiac arrest and was declared dead . The RTPCR was done and she was detected Covid positive .The cause of death was due malignant cachexia.
On Friday 24 new cases were detected in the state out which 21 cases were from East Khasi Hills , 1 each from North Garo Hills , East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills .
A total of 5 patients were declared recovered today .
The state has so far detected a total of 13,560 Covid cases out of which 155 are active cases, 13,262 recovered and 143 deaths.
