Shillong ( Meghalaya), Dec 22 : BJP State President, Ernest Mawrie today condemned the TMC for their remark mocking the Khasi culture in very demeaning words. TMC leader Kriti Azad had used a very derogatory phrase for the traditional attire of the Khasis, which Prime Minister so proudly wore.
Mawrie said that the remarks showed the real mindset of the TMC leadership against the tribals of the state, and tribals in general. He said that the TMC were an elitist party who find all others below them. The remark also showed how little this regional party from West Bengal understood Meghalaya, its people and its culture.
Mawrie implored upon the state leaders who have joined TMC to see the truth about the real intent of their party. Mawrie said that the people of Meghalaya will never accept the TMC ever.
On Wednesday, Azad posted an image of Mr. Modi wearing a traditional Khasi outfit with a caption reading: “It is neither male nor female, he is only a priest of fashion.” The Twitter post was deleted later.
Azad had shared photographs of Modi donning traditional Khasi dress , ‘jymphong’, during a public meeting in Shillong on December 18, and a woman model wearing a similar dress, with two lines in Hindi that triggered the controversy. However, he later deleted the tweet .
