Williamnagar ( Meghalaya), Aug 9: In a heart wrenching case of human behaviour, a dead body of a one -day old boy was found this morning just in front of the Williamnagar Jail premises in East Garo Hills (EGH) after the infant was allegedly abandoned by his biological parent (s).
The incident has sent shock waves across the region with people questioning the lack of humanity that left a child to die in the open. It is however yet to be ascertained as to whether the baby was abandoned after its death or died due to being abandoned.
A report on the abandoned child was made by locals after the discovery with the police confirming that a case has been taken up on the matter and a search for those that committed the act currently being undertaken.
“We are acting on the matter and trying to find out what happened and how and who are responsible. We will act against them after facts are ascertained,” said superintendent of police, EGH, Bruno A Sangma.
Cases of such wanton criminal acts have been far too common for the liking of residents of the region, with the latest causing disgust.
“This is a heartless act and my heart goes out to the infant. How can anyone abandon a baby in this manner? We feel gutted by this inhuman act,” said social activist from Tura, Jaynie N Sangma.
