Shillong ( Meghalaya ), July 17 : The 186th Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh was observed on Saturday by unveiling the portrait of U Tirot Sing by MP Rajya Sabha Dr. WR Kharlukhi .
Others present were Dr David Syiemlieh’s former Chairperson UPSC, FR Kharkongor Commissioner & Secretary Arts & Culture , President Khasi Authors Society, Prof DRL Nonglait and Synod College faculty.
Floral tributes were paid at the statue of U Tirot Sing by FR Kharkongor , Commissioner & Secretary Arts & Culture , Officials Art& Culture and members of Meghalaya Model United Nations ( MMUN) at Fire Brigade here .
The programme was organised by the Department of Art and Culture in collaboration with Meghalaya Model United Nations.
FR Kharkongor, Commissioner and Secretary, Arts and Culture department paid homage to U Tirot Sing Syiem, the great freedom fighter of Meghalaya who fought relentlessly to prevent Khasi Hills from falling into the hands of the British.
Highlighting contributions of U Tirot Sing in the country’s freedom movement, Kharkongor said, the history of the great freedom fighter should be revisited to get a 360 degree perspective of what he represented.
Musical tributes were also paid by Lamphrang Syiemlieh.
