Imphal (Manipur), Aug 31: Two killed and four wounded in day long mortar shell and gun sniper attacks by suspected Kuki militants in Thamnapokpi, under Bishnupur district of Manipur. One of the deceased has been identified as Pebam Deban (51) from Thamnapokpi. The incident happened at around 2.40 pm on Thursday.
On Wednesday, 8 including 2 IRB personnel of 2nd IRB Naranseina injured in a gunfight with armed Kuki miscreants. The use of heavy bombs is evident, and the bullet reached the civilian settlement area.
A girl narrowly escaped from sniper rifle bullet with a big sigh of relief, Rojika, a girl from Naransena Maning Leikai said that because of the ongoing war, locals in Naranseina are not safe even at their residences. She also narrowly escaped a bullet on Wednesday when the Kuki militants incessantly fired upon the residential area.
Over the insecurity despite the state’s claim that 60,000 Central Security forces have been deployed in various parts of the state, the Kuki militants and other armed volunteers have been continuing their attacks on the Meitei civilians time and again. At this, she questioned what the government is watching, and what is the government exactly doing.
Stating further that the so-called central forces deployed so far by the state government to provide security to the civilians have always proved useless. They have always been a silent spectator against all the terrors meted to the Meiteis. It is high time, the state government must take up measures to save and protect civilians from any such attack, added the girl.
She also said she would have died today had her height was more by half an inch or so.
Meanwhile, Lonphai, Khousabung, Kangvai and Sugnu areas have virtually turned into a battleground.
