Shillong (Meghalaya), Sept. 26 – In a joint operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and local police arrested Aisha Khatoon (50), a resident of Lower Paltan Bazar, for drug peddling.
During the operations police recovered from her possession, 73 vials of suspected heroin (9.72g), 4 mobile phones and Rs 27,410 in cash.
A criminal case has been registered under the NDPS Act. Authorities continue to crack down on illegal drug activities in the region.
This arrest is part of a larger effort to combat the growing drug problem in Shillong. According to authorities, heroin and other substances have been seized in numerous operations this year.
Recently, police seized 500 grams of heroin worth Rs 5 lakh in June, 1.5 kg of ganja worth Rs 3 lakh in August and multiple arrests of peddlers and users.
The Meghalaya Police and ANTF have intensified patrols and raids to curb drug trafficking. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to educate the public about the dangers of substance abuse.
“The war on drugs is ongoing, and we will continue to take strict action against those involved,” said East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger.
