Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 22 : In a significant victory for war on drugs, the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) in Shillong has destroyed a massive stash of drugs worth Rs. 8.5 crore. This bold move is part of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs’ (CBIC) Drug Disposal Campaign, demonstrating the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking.
The destroyed drugs, seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, were incinerated today, Jan 22, in a secure and environmentally responsible manner. The destruction drive was overseen by the Drug Disposal Committee, headed by Spencer M Mylliem, Joint Commissioner of Customs, North Eastern Region (NER).
This significant step reinforces the Customs department’s commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, prioritizing public welfare and national security.
