Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 14: In compliance with the Supreme Court of India’s judgment on Feb 13, the Education Department has taken swift action, directing an inspection and securing of the CMJ University campus.
A team of three senior officials, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi District and police personnel, visited the campus on Feb 14.
During the visit, the team interacted with the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of CMJ University, informing them that an Administrator will be appointed to oversee the university’s affairs. The university has been directed to cease all financial transactions, administrative, and academic activities immediately. Furthermore, the university has been instructed to ensure that no assets are moved from the campus premises.
This development comes after a prolonged period of uncertainty surrounding the university’s legitimacy. The Supreme Court’s judgment has paved the way for the Meghalaya government to take control of the situation, ensuring that the interests of students and stakeholders are protected.
The future of CMJ University remains uncertain, with the appointment of an Administrator and the cessation of all activities marking a significant turning point. As the situation unfolds, students and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the Meghalaya government navigates this complex issue.
