Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 17: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today launched the ‘My City’ Beautification Drive, a community-led initiative aimed at transforming the state’s urban spaces into cleaner, greener, and more liveable areas. The programme, inaugurated in Mawlai, involves distributing grants of up to Rs 1 lakh to 60 localities for beautification works.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma emphasized the importance of participatory governance, saying, “Real governance and grassroots governance happens when there is interaction, when there is communication, and when there are suggestions and actions being taken on the suggestions.”
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a CCTV surveillance system at Mawlai Mawroh and launched a symbolic painting drive at Mawlai Bridge. Sangma assured that the government is working to address concerns over water supply issues in Shillong, with efforts underway to repair damaged pipelines and identify local sources for backup systems.

The programme is expected to foster a sense of ownership and collective responsibility among citizens, driving positive change in the state’s urban landscape.
