Imphal ( Manipur ), Nov 13 : An Assam Rifles commanding officer , his wife and son, and at least three other soldiers and the driver have been killed by terrorists in an ambush in Manipur, in one of the the deadliest attack in the region in years.
Suspected valley based militant ambushed security forces near S Sehken village, Singngat sub division, Churachandpur district, at around 10am this morning .
Col Viplav Tripathi (CO-46 AR), wife and his son died on the spot along with three other soilders . Other injured personnel were evacuated to Behiang Primary Health Centre.
The attack took place as the commanding officer went to supervise a civic action programme in the district, The driver of the car is also believed to have been killed in the attack, taking the toll to seven.
According to reports the convoy of the Assam Rifles was ambushed by an unknown valley based group of terrorists.
Meanwhile , Chief Minister , N ,Biren Singh in a tweet has has strongly condemned the cowardly attack on a convoy of 46 AR which has reportedly killed few personnel including the CO & his family at Churachandpur today.
He said the State forces & Para military are already on their job to track down the militants and assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
