Shillong (Meghalaya), Dec 16 : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Wednesday received an anonymous letter stating that a plan was being hatched to kill some student leaders and some of its members .
The leaders were surprised to receive the threatening letter sent to them without signature informing the leaders of the student body that the “Sponsored Agency of the state Government” (Police Department) wants to eliminate the KSU leaders and some of its members.
The anonymous letter writer also stated that the KSU should not take this letter lightly and the sender of the letter would like to meet the president and general secretary of KSU central body and reveal to them everything.
KSU President, Lambokstar Marngar said that KSU is used to receiving such threatening letters and it was a regular affair when they agitated against the Citizens Amendment Bill, Citizens Amendment Act and implementation of Inner Line Permit in the state. “But this letter is different from the rest and the KSU will not be deterred by such a threatening letter”, Marngar said. “The KSU is not a militant organization and is fighting for the rights of the Hynniewtrep community, the students’ welfare through peaceful and in a democratic way”, the KSU leader said.
Marngar said that his organization will investigate the matter and will have to follow the principle of “tit for tat” if the lives of the members are taken away without any rhyme or reason. Marngar also stated that authorities can take away the lives of the KSU leaders and members, but they will not be able to take away the ideology of the KSU.
He also cited that in the recent past many of the KSU leaders and members were killed but the ideology of the students union did not die down till date .
