Baghmara(Meghalaya), July 2: Social activist, Greneth M Sangma, has written to the chief minister, Conrad Sangma, seeking a stay order of the transfer of the recently posted DC to the district, SF Hamid.
Hamid is set to go on a central deputation for a period of 3 years to his home state of Jammu & Kashmir. However his transfer has not gone down too well with the residents of the district as it has been only about 2 months since he was posted there.
“On behalf of the people of SGH, we seek your intervention into the transfer of the IAS officer. He is very sincere and committed to the development of the district and even in the short time that he has been here we have seen progress and development going in the right direction. We do not know the reason for his transfer and whether it is intentionally done by your government,” said Greneth in his letter.
He added that IAS officers were being transferred often from SGH and this could not be taken for granted.
“We need such honest officers (IAS and IPS).
The activist accused the transfer of being at the behest of political interference while warning that the district should not be underestimated.
“I request the MLAs of SGH, particularly of the government, to consider our genuine demand. We deserve an IAS DC in our district who deals directly with the people, with innovative ideas to uplift the most underdeveloped district in the state,” asserted Greneth.
He further requested the government to reconsider its decision after introspection and allow Hamid to continue in the capacity of DC for the district.
The letter was sent today, Jul 2.
