Shillong, Sept 15: The Meghalaya government has ordered a full-scale inquiry into the controversy surrounding Shree Cement Company in East Jaintia Hills.
A committee has been constituted vide Notification No. POL.95/2026/5 dated September 8, to go into the disruption of the public hearing called by the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board on July 31 at Elaka Labang Nongphyllut for the proposed cement plant.
The committee has been tasked to inquire into the cause and circumstances that led to the disruption of the hearing and to assess the possible impact of setting up the cement major in the district from environmental, social, legal and criminal angles before submitting a comprehensive report.
The panel will also consult stakeholders wherever needed.
Meanwhile, the committee has invited representations from all concerned and the general public. Those wishing to depose before the committee in person can also submit their contact details.
