Khliehriat, July 24: A special court in East Jaintia Hills has sentenced Jimi Bareh to 22 years of Rigorous Imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 in a POCSO case involving a minor.
The judgment was delivered by the Court of Special Judge B. Khriam on July 21, 2026. Bareh was held guilty under Section 376(2)(d) of the IPC read with Sections 5(f)(ii), 5(n) and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The case was registered in 2020 as Khliehriat Women Police Station Case No. 48(L2)/2020 and investigated. A charge sheet was filed on November 18, 2021.
The court found that the offenses fell under aggravated sexual assault provisions of the POCSO Act and awarded the maximum punishment prescribed for the charges.
