Williamnagar, May 20 : A Williamnagar resident landed behind bars Tuesday after police caught him flooding Facebook and YouTube with sexually explicit posts aimed at women.
The accused, Newbard M. Sangma alias Bethuel of A·chak Jangkigre, was picked up for habitually uploading obscene content open to the public. Police said his recent Facebook uploads triggered charges under Sections 75(IV)(3) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000.
Williamnagar PS has registered Case No. 21/2026 against him.
SP S. A. Rynjah said posting sexually explicit material on social media is a cognizable cyber offence. He asked victims to report such cases to police or file complaints on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
Probe is underway.
