New Delhi/Shillong, March 12 : The BJP has strongly condemned attempts by alleged infiltrators to contest Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, warning it threatens Meghalaya’s tribal identity. “No infiltrator should be allowed to manipulate our electoral process,” said Rikman G Momin, BJP Meghalaya President.
The party alleges infiltrators are obtaining local documents through marriages, acquiring land, and subverting tribal rights. The BJP demands strict laws against this practice, citing constitutional protections for indigenous communities. The statement comes amidst violence in Garo Hills, where two died in clashes.
The BJP assures support to the Meghalaya government in restoring peace, saying “the people of the North-East deserve better.”
