Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 28: In a dazzling move, India has thrown its weight behind Meghalaya’s breathtaking Jingkieng Jri / Lyu Chrai Cultural Landscape, nominating it for the coveted UNESCO World Heritage status.
This enchanting landscape, nestled in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, is a testament to the Indigenous Khasi and Jaiñtia communities’ profound connection with nature and spirituality. The nomination dossier, submitted by Ambassador Vishal V. Sharma, highlights the region’s unique cultural identity, shaped by centuries-old traditions of land use, governance, and ecological stewardship.
As the world watches, Meghalaya’s rich heritage is poised to take center stage. With its stunning natural beauty and resilient cultural fabric, Jingkieng Jri / Lyu Chrai is a strong contender for UNESCO recognition.
