Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 26: In a dazzling display of cultural fusion, Lok Bhavan, Shillong, celebrated the 77th Republic Day with a vibrant programme showcasing the Northeast’s rich heritage. Governor C.H. Vijayashankar led the celebrations, taking the National Salute as the Meghalaya Police Band played the National Anthem.
The event was a whirlwind of colors, music, and dance, with traditional performances from across the region stealing the show. Ka Shad Knia Sngi, Wangala, and Ka Chad Rep from Meghalaya; Satriya Dance from Assam; Cheraw from Mizoram; and Lai Haraoba Folk Dance from Manipur were just a few of the breathtaking acts.
The Assam Rifles Jazz Band added to the patriotic fervor with a special performance. The evening also honoured award recipients, including Dr. Delphine Gare Momin, Smti. Kmoin Wahlang, and Benedict Skhemlang Hynniewta. Flower Show winners Kynton Kharkongor and Donald Khardewsaw were crowned ‘King’ and ‘Queen of the Show’ .
