Shillong(Meghalaya), Oct 27 : In a significant crackdown, the Special Cell and SOT of Meghalaya Police apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals in here on Friday last . The group, comprising four men and one woman, was traveling in a tourist vehicle from Srinagar when they were intercepted at the ISBT junction in Mawlai Mawiong.
The individuals, identified as Md. Alamgir Mia (25), Lelepa Begum (40), Musanat Jahana Khatoon (35), Md. Imammul Hassan (18), and Md. Fajid Bilal (47), hailed from different districts in Bangladesh. During preliminary questioning, they failed to produce valid documents, leading to their arrest.
A case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station, and authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding their presence in the state. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges in border security and immigration enforcement in the region.
