Kokrajhar (Assam ) , Oct 23: A powerful IED blast rocked the railway track between Kokrajhar and Salakati railway station in the early hours of Thursday, causing widespread concern in the area. The blast, which occurred at around 12:10 am, damaged the railway track in two parts but fortunately did not result in any casualties.
According to sources, the blast was likely planted by unknown miscreants and is being investigated by the authorities. A goods train had passed through the track just 10 minutes before the incident. Senior police and railway officials rushed to the spot and began repair work, which was completed by morning, allowing normal train services to resume.
The incident has sparked condemnation from various quarters, including the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), which has urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible. “This kind of incident stopped long ago, and its reoccurrence is really frightening,” said UPPL general secretary Raju Kumar Narzary, emphasizing the need for maintaining peace in the region.
Local MLA Lawrence Islary and other officials visited the spot to assess the situation. The authorities have assured that a detailed investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
