Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 19: Defending champions NorthEast United FC have booked their place in the finals of the 134th IndianOil Durand Cup, edging past Shillong Lajong FC 1-0 in a repeat of last edition’s semi-finals.
Redeem Tlang’s first-half strike proved to be the difference-maker, as NorthEast United FC held on to their lead to secure their second straight finals appearance.
Shillong Lajong FC put up a spirited fight, but despite creating several scoring opportunities, they were unable to find the back of the net. NorthEast United FC’s defense held strong, and they were able to see out the win.
The win sets up an exciting final matchup for NorthEast United FC, who will be looking to retain their title.
